State and District Testing - Williamsburg Local Schools
Williamsburg Local Schools believe that testing/assessment is a crucial piece to maximizing student learning. Our school community utilizes the Ohio State Assessments, STAR Assessments from Renaissance, Aimsweb by Pearson, Terra Nova/Inview, ACT, and teacher developed formative assessments, just to name a few. We use these opportunities to monitor student progress towards mastery of the state curriculum and to determine instructional planning and design. We ask that parents partner with us to promote the value of these opportunities and ensure student ownership in their academic growth/achievement. After all, in order for our students to be career and college ready, whether your child will consider post-secondary educational options or joining the workforce immediately after high school, assessments will continue to be utilized throughout future endeavors.

Why do students take state tests?
State achievement tests tell us how well our students are growing in the knowledge and skills outlined in Ohio’s Learning Standards. These tests help guide and strengthen future teaching so we can be sure that we are preparing our students for long-term success in school, college, careers, and life. Test results also allow citizens to know how their local schools are performing compared to others around the state.

Utilizing Renaissances’ STAR Assessments in Grades K-12 to Monitor Progress of Growth/Achievement
The STAR Assessments will be taken three times in the year for students in grades K-12. These are short assessments that will help teachers gauge their student’s growth and monitor mastery of the Ohio Learning Standards they are teaching. The information gleaned from these assessments will help to develop the instructional design/delivery for your child.

Formative Assessments throughout the Year For Student Learning
Our staff will utilize various formative assessments throughout the year to develop plans to accelerate learning for our students. Our staff work in teams and have opportunities for professional planning and development in the use of testing/assessment. These professional learning and collaboration opportunities for our staff happen consistently throughout the year including 2 hour late states and Inservice Days.
