Will all athletes/extra-curriculars be represented in this building?
We have done our best to incorporate as many extra-curricular activities as possible in this place for the students of Williamsburg Local Schools. We look forward to seeing creative uses of this flexible space in the future!
What games will be played in the new gymnasium?
At this time, we plan for Junior High Volleyball and Basketball games to be played in the Auxiliary Gym. Other opportunities could arise that call for other levels/competitions to be played in the Auxiliary Gym as well.
How will the Athletic Center be financed?
The District financed the project using a type of loan available to public entities called COPs (Certificate of Participation) financing. That debt will be serviced using the PILOT payments (payments in lieu of taxes) from the South Afton Industrial Park, with no additional tax burden on Williamsburg homeowners or small businesses.
What will be the seating capacity of the bleachers?
There will be approximately 400 seats in the bleachers. The gym at the "Old High School" has an official capacity of 450.
The STEM Lab
How is the STEM Lab being financed?

Where will the STEM Lab be located?
The STEM Lab will replace the existing rooms 217 and 218 at the High School.
When will construction begin?
Construction will begin as soon as students begin summer break. It will be completed by start of the 2025-2026 school year, so no learning will be disrupted for students
New Elementary School
When will the Old High School be demolished?
The Old High School is scheduled to be demolished during the Winter of 2025-2026. There has not been an exact date set yet.
Will there be opportunities to tour the Old High School?
We intend to offer tours and give the community a chance to walk through the old building one final time. We have not set details about this yet. Continue to check our website and social media channels for information.
Will bricks from the old building be available for sale to the community?
The District still has to contract with a demolition company and work out details regarding the demolition of the building. We are aware that many people would like a piece to remember the old building by and will share details when we have them.
There will be increased traffic with an elementary school in the middle of town. How will this be handled?
The District is working with a professional firm in designing for efficient traffic flow to and from the site. As we get closer to opening the building, we will share detailed graphics and information to keep everyone well informed.
What is the estimated completion date of the New Elementary School?
The current schedule calls for us to welcome students in to the new building for the 2027-2028 school year.
Will the New Elementary School have preschool classrooms?
Yes. Thanks to the generosity of the Abrams Family Foundation, there will be three dedicated preschool classrooms in the new building.
Will any elements of the Old High School be incorporated in to the new build?
We plan on trying to incorporate some nostalgic pieces from the old building into the new building. We are working closely with the architect on ideas to preserve some of the historic pieces.
Is there a time capsule in the Old High School?
We have heard rumors that there may be one in the cornerstone. If anyone has more information about this, please let us know. We plan to attempt to find it during the demolition.
Will the building be built to accommodate potential growth in the District?
Yes, we are including extra space into the building to prepare for this possibility. We are including six additional classrooms in this project to prepare for future growth. These classrooms will be used for other purposes until they are needed for expansion.
What will happen to the current Elementary School?
There is money included in the budget with OFCC to demolish the current elementary, though a final decision has not been made yet. A decision on this will not be made until the New Elementary School is near completion.
